Gulfstream....
The offshore waters should warming on up now and the Yellowfin should soon start to make their annual appearance from the North Carolina Coast. Wahoo are biting now with a few Yellowfin mixed in. This will change to mostly Yellowfin as the temp continue to rise. Look for the warm water breaks right along the Continental Shelf.
Offshore....
The King Mackerel bite has been steady all winter and should continue to be. These school sized fish will hold at the offshore temp breaks. Look for drastic change in water temp and you should find fish. Everyone has been catching their limits pretty easy on drone spoons, pirate plugs or drones rigged with cut bait. The Mahi have been slim to none but that will change as the temp start to rise.
Inshore....
The Flounder, Trout and Drum bite was steady most of the winter till the last couple weeks as the waters turned downright cold. There are still a scattering of fish being caught but limits are hard to come by.
Offshore Bottom...
The Grouper fishing has been Outstanding all winter long with Big, Fat fish coming on most every trip starting around the 30 mile range. The Blue headed Sea Bass (That Big Ones) are also steady in as close as 10 miles. the trick to Sea bass fishing this time of year is to find a place that has not been trap fished. If all you catch is small ones....move to the next stop till find the find ones.
When the offshore waters hold these large temp breaks, fish should be schooled up around those breaks. King Mackerel in the colder waters and Wahoo/Yellowfin in the warmer water. As the water warms up these fish will tend to scatter and the Gulfstream with turn more to Yellowfin and then Mahi. Inshore the Bonita’s will show up first, then the Kings, then the Spanish. The fish are generally moving from South to North. So look at what was biting to the South of your location and know that those fish are moving to the North. So let's say they are catching Bonita’s in Carolina Beach today....know that in the next couple of days they will show up in Wrightsville Beach.
